MAXIMA consortium visits MIMplus

· October 9, 2026

On October 6 and 7, 2026, MIMplus hosted the European MAXIMA consortium. At the M42 project meeting, the international project partners discussed the current status of development, technical progress, and the next steps in the development of an innovative axial-flow motor for the automotive industry.

Working Together on the Mobility of Tomorrow

The MAXIMA European research project aims to develop an innovative, modular axial-flow motor design for automotive applications. To this end, the consortium is pooling the expertise of its partners in various technological development areas, including simulation and design, manufacturing, prototype testing, digital twins, and recycling and sustainability considerations.

As a member of the MAXIMA consortium, MIMplus contributes its manufacturing and development expertise to the dialogue between technological development and industrial implementation. When developing new electric drive concepts, it is particularly important to consider manufacturability, material requirements and future scalability alongside the electromagnetic design.

Technological Advancement and Collaborative Project Planning

The meeting focused on the latest results and continued coordination of the technical work packages. The agenda included the following topics, among others:

  • the design and further development of axial-flow motor technology based on a modular concept
  • The development of digital twins, i.e. digital models to support optimised control of the electric motor
  • The evaluation of suitable manufacturing and recycling processes in view of future mass production
  • Life cycle management and sustainability considerations
Prototype assembly and testing. Coordination of the next steps for assembling, testing and validating the developed solutions.
  • Communication, public relations and upcoming events

Personal exchanges and insights into manufacturing at MIMplus

In addition to professional collaboration, the meeting provided an opportunity for personal interaction. During a group dinner on the first day, the project partners took the opportunity to get to know each other better outside the official agenda, share experiences and strengthen existing relationships.

The second day consisted of a company tour, during which the international guests gained insights into MIMplus’s manufacturing environment and the company’s expertise in Metal Injection Molding (MIM) and Additive Manufacturing (AM). The tour successfully concluded the two-day exchange.

Shaping the Next Steps Together

At the end of the project meeting, the consortium agreed on the next steps, priorities and tasks for the next project period. The ongoing exchange between the partners is crucial for advancing the joint development, validation and subsequent industrialisation of innovative axial-flow motor solutions.

MIMplus would like to thank all the project partners for their constructive dialogue, as well as its own employees for their support in preparing for, organising and conducting the meeting, which contributed to its success.
